How we build it

Flights are formed in-house from developed blanks, so pitch and outside diameter come out to drawing instead of to whatever the market had in stock. Trough fill is normally kept at 30–45% — running fuller looks efficient on paper and jams the moment the material gets damp. Hanger bearings are chosen for the material, not the shaft: the wrong bearing in an abrasive powder is the usual failure point.

What fill percentage should a screw conveyor run at?

30% for abrasive or sluggish material, up to 45% for free-flowing powders. Sizing above that leaves no margin for a wet or lumpy batch and is the most common cause of a screw stalling in service.

Why is my screw conveyor motor undersized?

Because the calculated power is a running figure. Starting against a flooded trough needs far more torque, so practical motor selection is normally 1.5–2 times the calculated figure. Our screw calculator shows the calculated number and flags this.
