How we build it

Choose by what the damper has to do. A butterfly modulates flow and is compact. A multi-louver modulates a large rectangular duct with a lower pressure drop when open. A guillotine does not modulate at all — it gives you positive isolation so people can work downstream. Seat design and shaft sealing are what determine leakage class, so those are specified before the blade.

Which damper gives tight shut-off for maintenance?

A guillotine. It slides fully out of the flow path and seats on a machined frame, which is what you need for zero-leakage isolation before entering a duct. Butterfly and louver dampers control flow but are not isolation devices.

Butterfly or multi-louver damper?

Butterfly for round or smaller ducts where a single blade can span the bore. Multi-louver for large rectangular ducts, where several linked blades give better control and a lower pressure drop in the open position.
