Steel Weight & Cost Calculator
Weight of any cut length from your own dimensions — not a standard-section lookup.
How this calculator works
Weight comes from volume and density, nothing else. The calculator works out the cross-sectional volume for the shape you pick, multiplies by length to get mm³, converts to cubic metres and multiplies by the density of the material. Enter a rate per kilogram and it also returns the material cost for the lot, with and without 18% GST.
Formulas used
V = L × W × TV = (π/4) × D² × LV = (π/4) × (OD² − ID²) × L, ID = OD − 2tV = a² × LV = 0.866 × AF² × LV = (a + b − t) × t × Lm = V ÷ 10⁹ × ρDensities used
Checked against
ISA 75×75×8 equal angle works out at 8.92 kg/m against the 8.9 kg/m printed in the IS section tables — the small difference is the root radius, which the formula ignores.
Worth knowing
This is theoretical weight. Rolling tolerance on plate and pipe normally puts the actual weight within ±2–5%, and cutting kerf and offcut scrap are not included.
