Bucket Elevator Capacity & Power Calculator
Capacity and motor rating from bucket size, pitch, speed, fill factor and lift.
How this calculator works
Capacity is bucket volume times the number of buckets passing a point per second, times the fill factor and the bulk density. Buckets per second follows directly from belt or chain speed divided by bucket pitch. Power is dominated by the lift term — the work of raising the material through the vertical height — plus an allowance for scooping resistance at the boot and drive losses.
Formulas used
n_b = v ÷ pQ_v = V_bucket × n_b × fill × 3600 ÷ 10⁶ (m³/h)Q_m = Q_v × ρ ÷ 1000 (TPH)P = Q_m × H × 9.81 ÷ 3.6 (W)Checked against
47 TPH at a 15 m lift returns a 5.5 kW motor selection, which matches standard elevator sizing practice.
Worth knowing
Fill factor is typically 0.6–0.75 for free-flowing material and lower for sluggish or fibrous material. Boot scooping resistance is included as an allowance, not calculated exactly.
